Puppies

Getting it right from the start is one of the most important things we can do as owners to avoid behaviour struggles in the future. Just like puppies need vaccinations against diseases, they also need what I call behaviour vaccines. These “vaccines” are carefully planned exposure to the sights, surfaces, sounds, people, and situations they will encounter throughout their life. Think of each positive exposure as giving your puppy little behaviour antibodies, something they can draw in when they encounter something similar later in life!

The critical window for this early learning is surprisingly short. Puppies are the most receptive to new experiences in the first few months of life, and what they encounter (or don’t encounter) during this period can shape their emotional and behaviour responses for years to come. A puppy that misses out on positive early experiences does not simply catch up later; the groundwork becomes harder to lay once that window has closed.

The good news is that with the right guidance, early puppyhood is one of the most rewarding stages to work through. Puppies are naturally curious, motivated, and built to learn. The investment you make now pays dividends for the lifetime of your dog.

At Roo’s K9s, the puppy services offered are designed to make the most of this critical period, giving your puppy the experience they need and giving you the knowledge and confidence to continue the work every day.
